CMV Driver Basics
Course Length: 50 minutes
Overview: This online training is designed to help your learners meet the current training requirements for entry-level CMV drivers (49 CFR Part 380, Subpart E) and covers the following topics: Driver Qualification, Driver Wellness, Introduction to Hours of Service, and Whistleblower Protection. To comply with the regulatory requirements, you must also provide detailed Hours of Service training (as regulated under 49 CFR Part 395) based on the type of CMV (property- or passenger-carrying) your drivers will be operating.
It is the responsibility of the trainer and the trainer's company to determine and verify a student's competency. If you're looking for a product to satisfy the current Entry-Level Driver Training regulations which also includes a certificate that adheres to the entry-level recordkeeping requirements found in 49 CFR 380.513, please enroll your learners in the CMV Entry Level Driver Training Curriculum. After completing this course, learners will be able to:
- Explain the requirements of Section 391.11 of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSR,) including general qualifications, physical qualifications, and what can cause driver disqualification
- Identify what constitutes being healthy in terms of cholesterol levels, blood pressure, weight and diet, exercise, alcohol and drug use, stress, and fatigue
- Discuss what is required by the hours-of-service regulations and what information you should record on your record of duty status
- Describe your rights under the regulations and how you are protected from retaliation when filing a complaint about a violation of a safety or health regulation
