Hazmat Transportation: Driver Training
Course Length: 60 minutes
Overview: The Hazmat Transportation: Driver Training online training course is designed specifically for drivers to safely transport hazardous materials, including the loading and unloading of hazmat. This course helps satisfy the function-specific training requirements and modal-specific training requirements for transport by highway. Hazmat Transportation: Driver Training assumes the driver has Hazmat General Awareness knowledge already gained from experience or successful completion of appropriate training.
This course is focused training for the Modal Specific training requirement in 49 CFR §172.700(c).
Prerequisites: Before taking this course, learners should have a solid understanding of:
- Hazardous Materials Regulations (HMR), including what they are and where to find
- Hazmat Table (HMT), including when and why to use, where to find, and how to read
- Hazard Classes & Divisions, including where to find and what they mean
- Packing Groups, including what they are and what they mean
- Shipping Papers, including when and how to fill out, how to use, and where to store
- Labels, Placards, Markings, & Packaging, including the differences between them, the requirements of each, and your responsibilities for each
These prerequisites can be fulfilled by using Hazmat: General Awareness from J. J. Keller.
After completing this course, learners will be able to:
- Identify the required parts of hazmat training
- Apply Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, or FMCSA, regulations to hazmat transport
- Decide what hazmat documentation is needed and where to store it during transport
- Recognize a forbidden or hazardous material that is not properly prepared for shipment
- Read the Segregation Table for Hazardous Materials
- Distinguish classes and divisions of hazardous materials for proper loading and unloading
- Take precautions that keep your cargo safe and secure during transport
