Driver Vehicle Inspections: The Complete Process
Course Length: 60 minutes
IMPORTANT! This course has been updated to include the current regulations as of 12/18/14, which require drivers to complete pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections. Drivers must complete a driver vehicle inspection report (DVIR) after a post-trip inspection when vehicle defect(s) are found. Drivers of passenger-carrying vehicles must complete a DVIR whether or not vehicle defect(s) are found.
Overview: Successful commercial motor vehicle (or CMV) drivers must do all that they can to avoid accidents, roadside breakdowns, and losing road time due to poor vehicle condition. To avoid these problems, it is important to keep your vehicle in a safe, efficient operating condition.
This course is designed to help properly prepare drivers for conducting pre-trip, on-the-road, and post-trip inspections on standard CMVs, special rigs, and intermodal chassis.
After completing this course, learners will be able to:
- Conduct thorough pre-trip, on-the-road, and post-trip inspections
- Discuss the importance of using the same inspection routine every time you drive
- Differentiate between standard inspections and how to inspect special rigs (like multiple trailers, tankers, and refrigerated units)
- Discuss how to conduct an inspection on an intermodal chassis
