Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLBA) for Insurance Companies
Course Length: 30 minutes
The Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act imposes information-privacy requirements on a broad array of companies — including insurance companies — that provide financial products and services. This course explains the most important elements of the GLBA as it pertains to insurance companies.
Please view our standard GLBA Training Course for companies not in the insurance industry. Companies of all kinds have unprecedented capabilities to collect, analyze and deliver data quickly and cheaply. While these information practices offer many benefits to consumers, they present challenges to protecting information privacy as well. Congress passed the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLBA) in response to these challenges. The GLBA applies to a broad array of providers of financial products and services — including insurance companies. Because their customers entrust sensitive personal information about health, habits and lifestyles to them, insurance companies face particular challenges in this area. This 30-minute course explains the GLBA requirements that are most important to insurance companies in simple, understandable terms. It includes pop quizzes, news clippings and a final quiz highlighting real-world compliance issues that insurance employees should learn to recognize and deal with appropriately.
