CDL Class A Driver Training: Defensive Driving: Night Driving
Course Length: 15 minutes
Intended Audience: CDL Class A Drivers
Overview:
As a professional driver, driving at night introduces additional challenges to a job that already requires a lot of attention.
For instance:
- Low light makes it harder for you to see what's around you;
- Hazards can be harder to recognize at night; and
- Once you spot hazards, there is less time to respond.
There are three major factors a driver needs to focus on when driving at night: the vehicle; the road; and themself, the driver. Recognizing the challenges that come with each factor, and how to deal with them, will keep a driver safe on the road.
Even in the best conditions, driving a tractor-trailer requires preparation, constant alertness, and attention to detail.
