Entry-Level Driver Training: Pre- and Post-Trip Inspections: Pre-Trip Walk-Around
Course Length: 15 minutes
Intended Audience: Drivers who are applying for an initial commercial driver's license (CDL) or drivers upgrading their current CDL.
Course Disclaimer: This course can be used to help satisfy the theory instruction portion of the new entry-level driver training (ELDT) requirements that go into effect on February 7, 2022. To satisfy the theory instruction requirements, this course must be assigned and administered by a school or other entity listed on the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration's Training Provider Registry (TPR). To satisfy the complete ELDT training requirements, the school or entity conducting the training must provide the driver-trainee "behind-the-wheel" instruction in addition to theory instruction.
Regs Covered: Unit A1.1.3 Pre- and Post-Trip Inspections as specified in §392.7 and §396.11
This unit must teach the driver-trainees to conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections as specified in §392.7 and §396.11, including appropriate inspection locations. Instruction must also be provided on enroute vehicle inspections.
Overview: Performing a consistent walk-around inspection will help a driver find mechanical problems before they cause a breakdown or accident. Catching problems early will also help to avoid citations.
This course is designed to help drivers understand how to conduct an efficient and effective walk-around inspection of the vehicle.
