Entry-Level Driver Training: Pre- and Post-Trip Inspections: Post-Trip Inspection

Course Length: 5 minutes

Intended Audience: Drivers who are applying for an initial commercial driver's license (CDL) or drivers upgrading their current CDL.

Course Disclaimer: This course can be used to help satisfy the theory instruction portion of the new entry-level driver training (ELDT) requirements that go into effect on February 7, 2022. To satisfy the theory instruction requirements, this course must be assigned and administered by a school or other entity listed on the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration's Training Provider Registry (TPR). To satisfy the complete ELDT training requirements, the school or entity conducting the training must provide the driver-trainee "behind-the-wheel" instruction in addition to theory instruction.

Regs Covered: Unit A1.1.3 Pre- and Post-Trip Inspections inspections as specified in §392.7 and §396.11

This unit must teach the driver-trainees to conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections as specified in §392.7 and §396.11, including appropriate inspection locations. Instruction must also be provided on enroute vehicle inspections.

Overview: Inspections help to ensure a vehicle's safe and efficient operation. Conduct post-trip inspections to catch problems early and avoid citations.

This training is designed to help drivers learn how to complete a post-trip inspection.

After completing this course, learners will be able to:

• Complete a proper post-trip inspection,
• Explain when a Driver Vehicle Inspection Report (DVIR) is required, and
• Discuss how a DVIR should be completed.
