HAZWOPER: Fire Prevention & Protection

Overview:
HAZWOPER: Fire Prevention & Protection is designed to address the fire basics at any hazardous waste cleanup site. Those basics include what a fire is, the dangers of fires, fire prevention strategies, fire protection systems, the special circumstances fire can present when combined with hazardous substances, and how to respond when a fire erupts at the worksite.
After completing this course, learners will be able to:
- Identify the types of damage fires can cause, the increased risk of fire when working at a hazardous waste site, and the elements that must be present for a fire to form
- Recognize fire classifications and special chemical fire considerations
- Explain the difference between fire prevention and fire protection
- Discuss fire prevention measures that can be taken to help prevent fires including other chemical precautions
- Describe systems used in fire protection including fire detection, fire alarms, fire suppression, and fire brigades
- List actions to take when a fire occurs including evacuation and the use of a portable fire extinguisher
