Entry-Level Driver Training (School Bus Endorsement): Railroad-Highway Grade Crossings
Course Length: 15 minutes
Intended Audience: School bus drivers who are applying for an initial commercial driver's license (CDL) or drivers upgrading their current CDL.
Overview: A school bus is one of the safest vehicles on the highway. However, a school bus does not have the slightest edge when involved in a crash with a train. Because of a train's size and weight, it cannot stop quickly. An emergency escape route does not exist for a train.
Entry-Level Driver Training (School Bus Endorsement): Railroad-Highway Grade Crossings is designed to teach about the different types of railroad crossings, crossing gates and signs, and proper procedures for crossing railroad tracks.
Objectives:
After completing this course, learners will be able to:
- Identify various crossing signs, gates, and signals you may encounter
- Describe the procedures for safely stopping at and crossing railroad tracks
- Explain appropriate actions to take in the event of a crossing-related emergency
