Entry-Level Driver Training: Canada: Crossing the Border

Course Length: 15 minutes

Intended Audience: Drivers who are applying for an initial commercial driver's license (CDL) or drivers upgrading their current CDL.

Course Disclaimer: This course can be used to help satisfy the theory instruction portion of the new entry-level driver training (ELDT) requirements that go into effect on February 7, 2022. To satisfy the theory instruction requirements, this course must be assigned and administered by a school or other entity listed on the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration's Training Provider Registry (TPR). To satisfy the complete ELDT training requirements, the school or entity conducting the training must provide the driver-trainee "behind-the-wheel" instruction in addition to theory instruction.

Overview: Every day, many professional drivers cross the U.S.-Canada border without incident. For the new professional driver, however, the thought of delivering goods into another country might seem like a daunting task. Being aware of and knowledgeable about some of the processes and procedures can help make the border crossing experience smooth and relatively easy.

This course is designed to provide an awareness of and knowledge about some of the processes and procedures that can help make the border crossing experience smooth and relatively easy.

Objectives

After completing this course, learners will be able to:

• Describe the processes used to cross the border into Canada and back into the United States
• Identify the credentials needed when operating in Canada
